There was a boy who sat alone. He always felt alone, but he wasn’t always physically alone. People talked to him. Some people liked him, but many people would hurt him. He kept to himself, mostly. Thing got harder for the boy. People were cruel to him. Then one day a man came to him.
he said, ‘Ah, I have found you at last.’
‘Oh?’ said the boy
the man chuckled, ‘I do indeed believe.’
‘why have you been looking for me, if I may ask?’
‘you have every right to ask. I just needed to find you.’
‘but why?’
‘to watch you.’
‘can you leave me alone?’
‘sorry, but I have to stay.’
‘Why?’
‘so many questions young one’
‘you said i have the right to ask them.’
‘and i have the right to not answer.’
‘hmm. well, if i leave are you going to follow me?’
‘maybe, but now it’ll be easier to find you.’
‘who are you?’
‘now that’s a good question. I am a reaper.’
‘so you’re a harvester?’
‘you could say that.’
‘what’s your name?’
‘some call me Death and some call me God.’
‘Death? is that why you’re here?’
‘im here for some reason.’
‘you don’t know?’
‘i know, and i don’t know. why do you think id be here?’
the boy then looked down and twiddled his thumbs. ’ i’m sad.’
‘why?’
‘im not loved.’
‘is that true?’
‘pretty much.’
‘i dont see how that’s why I’m here.’
‘Death, i planned on killing myself today.’
‘there we go.’
‘are you going to try to stop me?’
‘that’s not my job. i’m just a reaper.’
‘there are so many more people out there dying, why aren’t you with them?’
‘i can be in many places.’
‘what if i change my mind?’
‘i dont think id be here if you would of changed your mind.’
‘so its inevitable?’
‘it is so.’
‘okay. can we go?’
The reaper reached out his hand, ‘come along, now.’
They walked together until they came to the center of a bridge.
the boy started to cry. ‘why? why cant i be saved?’
the reaper let go of the boys hand. ’ you tell me.’
‘i dont want to do this anymore.’
‘then that’s your choice.’
The reaper left into the darkness. The boy stood there, alone, as always. The darkness got closed. the boy looked over the edge of the bridge.
‘maybe i should go.’
he jumped over to fall down to a fatal death. The reaper was right. the boys death was inevitable.
